"OH MR. SOUSA!" is conceived as a semi-staged concert. As the band and music are the true stars of the show, the band is positioned on stage, and the vignettes, hiliting events in Sousa's life, are acted out either to the sides of, or in front of, the band. There are also walk-over scenes, taking the actors from one side of the downstage area to the other.

The show, a full 2-hour evening, is in 2 acts, featuring a 22-piece concert band and a cast of 8 singing actors. One male plays plays John Philip Sousa from ages 20-76; one female plays Jennie Sousa, 16-68; and the 6 other members of the cast play all other roles.

There are no sets for this show, but available is a Power-Point CD with appropriate projections to be shown throughout, where theatres have this capacity.

There need not be any special lighting for this show. A general wash will suffice. If desired, a house lighting technician may be supplied in advance with a copy of the show's script, to create appropriate mood lighting per scene. This is totally at the discretion of the presenter.

There are minimal costumes, primarily costuming accessories, worn over basic formal concert attire, and a small selection of handheld props, used where necessary throughout the show.

Tight timing between vignettes and musical numbers is an integral and very important aspect of "OH MR. SOUSA!" Cues should be dove-tailed, so there is no "dead spot" between parts.

The show's actual table of contents is listed on the Audio page of this site.
